The System of a Down, also known under the acronym of SOAD and often abbreviated to System, is an Armenian-American rock band from Los Angeles, California, which was founded in 1995!
The band consists of Serja Tankian (solo singing, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Darona Malakiana (guitar, vocals), Shava Odadjiana (bass guitar, accompanying vocals) and John Dolmayan (drums). The group has a very distinctive style of music, so even among the fans there is no unity in what style it really is. Some say they are harder to describe hard rock, but most of them also talk about a very unique alternative music, including ethno, funk, psycho, death metal with elements of Armenian folklore.
Basagitarist Shavo Odadjian in a Madcap Music Review interview confirmed that System of a Down is preparing a new album and is working on new songs. A few days later, drummer John Dolmayan has revealed that 15 songs are already in the world and so all fans of this great Armenian-American band have fun!
The band gained commercial success with the release of five studio albums, three of which made their debut in Billboard 200 in the US Billboard 200. The band was also nominated for four Grammy Awards, and their track “BYOB” won the 2006 Grammy Best Hard Rock Performance. The group set a break in 2006 and resumed its activity in November 2010, starting a three-year tour.
